Dear Ren. Fest,
You are a beautiful place full of some kind of magic. Maybe it's the magic of fae or simply the magic of being somewhere completely thrilling. You offer so much to love. You bring music, shows, costumes and for those over 21 you bring ale. None of these things make the Renaissance Festival wonderful by themselves, though I'd personally be inclined to believe it if they did.
Thank you for allowing adults to embrace their inner child and be free or at least costumed in something wonderful or even silly. Sure, children roam and flock to the feet of the crowd, but most of the crowd is adults who live for the chance to be something outside their normal self. For other adults, it's a place to enjoy the mixing of past traditions, games and wear of the past.
Thank you for being a wonderful place for artists to sell their work and for the not so typical fine arts to be embraced. For example, jewelry sellers line the walks selling handmade necklaces, ear cuffs, earrings, bracelets, rings and elf ears. The majority of these wouldn't be seen in a typical jewelry store, but they are sold here. Other places sell corsets and costume skirts, actual elf ears, drawings and paintings or even socks. Some shops even sells swords and small daggers (must be over 18 to purchase). There's even a place to make a wax mold of your hand or get a henna tattoo! Thank you for embracing the arts.
Thank you for being a place that allows friends to gather and hang out in the strangest costumes they can find or simply as themselves.
Thank you for offering comedy to watch and enjoy such as the shows of the Da Vinci Brothers or the joust that takes place in front of the queen. These events are absolutely magical all on their own because it's not something we experience in daily life.
Thank you, Ren. Fair for the pleasant combination that creates a learning environment for the younger people.
Thank you for the opportunity to see wonderfully beautiful hawks, owls and other birds and to learn about them.
Not to mention, Thank you for the wonderful food. Where else are people going to find a rather large turkey leg or jester chips? The food being delicious is only a small factor.
Ren. Fest, thanks, for being somewhere I took a date, somewhere I went with friends, somewhere that created a tradition for a group of people and somewhere I feel at home. I love all the wonderful places and people you provide. I love the artwork, the games and the food. There's so much to do, and if I could I would be there every single weekend in May.
I'm sad you're only the weekends of May, but you offer an experience that can't be achieved elsewhere, and so I'll accept it and miss you the rest of the year.
Sincerely,
A Fan
