Dear warm goodness,
As I sit here sipping you, wonderful coffee, I am filled with gratitude for all that you do. Every morning you are there to give me the boost I need to face the oncoming day. You are the perfect addition to a morning skim over the paper, walk to class, or peaceful time outside listening to the wonders of nature.
Your form is versatile. Iced, blended, warm or with milk, you are beautiful all the same and always do your job of perking up even the most tired. You even taste good, which is just an added bonus! Baristas make you into grand creations like lattes, cappuccinos and machiattos. Also, you are a great reason to go and see a best friend who is rocking that barista apron and being a coffee magician.
Your powers are transformative. You allow us to be humans instead of zombies, enable us to survive our various difficult majors, and keep us hydrated—even though a good glass of water is recommended after every cup. You help us act like adults even though as one of my friends put it, “we all just want to take a nap-nap with our blankies.” You keep us awake when we have to drive long distances at ungodly hours like so many millennials do.
One of the things I am most thankful for is your ability to bring people together. Some of my fondest memories have occurred when my family has been around the table sipping coffee and catching up. My dear uncle makes a fresh pot of coffee and keeps our cups full while my aunt, grandmother, mother, sister and I talk about our lives and give each other that wonderful Southern advice.
So this is a letter to say thank you and to say I love you. Thank you so much for gracing the world with your wonderfulness. Thank you for providing energy to this perpetually tired and on the verge of being a sick college student who has never taken an easy course load. Thank you for your ability to boost and bring people together.
Love always,
Coffee Dependent
