Everywhere you turn these days, someone is using a cell phone. Whether we're taking a picture, messaging a friend, or constantly scrolling through social media, we all use them. It can be so handy to have everything you need at your fingertips, but also a problem in the future to come.
My first thought about this generation is that we are so lazy. How easy is it to order a pizza without even getting up from the couch? We have everything we need so accessible to us whether we need to get some food, check our bank account, or search something on Google. This leads into how poor communication is these days. You can order that pizza mentioned before, without even speaking to a real person.
Ordering online is so easy, yet can be so dangerous to your bank account! With apps like Snapchat, Tinder, Facebook Messenger, etc., you can build a whole entire relationship with someone without even meeting face to face. I think that's sad. Kids younger than me these days are starting to acquire these social media accounts that make it so easy to chat with other people through a cell phone, and might not gain those communication skills in other ways.
Along with communication, we are losing the quality time with friends and family because we can never not be glued to our phones. Going out to dinner could result in checking your phone 100 times because you are afraid you will miss something important, which results in lost time spent with the other person physically there.
We always feel the need to document everything about our lives as well. Taking videos, pictures, Snapchats, and that perfect Instagram photo takes away from the place you are physically in and whatever you may be doing. We do all of these things to show to others that we are having a wonderful time, which is really pointless to me, even though I am just as guilty for all of the things mentioned before.
On the flip side, our cell phones are amazing and can work in so many different ways. Exercising can be improved by following a simple app on our phone, or listening to that perfect workout playlist so accessible to us. Catching up with friends on a FaceTime call, or chatting on the phone with your parents can be so easy these days.
Although it is important to live in the moment, cell phones are great for capturing that perfect picture to remember that memory forever. Directions to anywhere can be found simply by searching your destination, and finding the nearest Target is right there at your fingertips.
I love looking at posts from friends I don't see nearly enough, and feeling like I am still apart of their life. And no one can lie, getting a ton of likes/comments on your newest Instagram post is a great confidence booster. I don't know which side I am on, but cell phones can either be wonderful or terrible. We all spend way too much time glued to our iPhones, but sometimes, it can be for the right reasons!
