Why You Should Love Glossier
Glossier

My mother always told me that I needed to start taking care of my skin at a young age. If I didn’t, I’d end up old and wrinkly. Her other go-to line was: “Mascara and lip gloss; you never know who you’re going to run into.” You know when you disagree with your mother, and she ends up always proving you wrong? Well, this is the most common argument we had, and every single time, she was right.

I was always the lazy girl when it came to getting ready. It took me a maximum of five minutes to throw on my makeup, and I always ended up falling asleep with product caked on my face. Lucky for me, my skin wasn’t affected. I have been blessed with great skin and an awesome complexion (thanks, Mom). That is, until my Junior year of college. It was both a blessing and a curse for both my skin and bank account when I moved to live above Sephora. The more I became interested in makeup, the more my skin would disagree. It was as if I were living through a stage of puberty that I was fortunate enough to skip as a middle schooler. Then it hit me: I needed to find products that worked to better my skin as well as have fun finding them. My entire life, I’ve prided myself on being an artist, whether it be for writing, drawing or baking. I finally realized that makeup and skincare in itself is an art.

A huge influence on my new-found makeup obsession is the makeup brand Glossier. A few weeks ago, I was asked to be a rep for their company, and let me tell you—I am beyond ecstatic.

Glossier is a beauty company that focuses on real girls and real life. Their products are designed to live with you, not overcome you. The brand focuses on healthy and radiant first; the makeup science is built on top of it. Glossier has gained an immense amount of popularity and followings as result of their creative and strategic idea to market their products via social media. What better way to reach millennials than to overload their news feeds? I found Glossier on Instagram (as I’m sure many of their customers have as well). Since the beginning, I have been following their growth and success. What truly drove me home is a line they have on their website: “Above all, we believe that you give life to products—products don’t breathe life into you.” It was an epiphany. This is what I had been looking for. What’s even better is the fact that their products are easy to use and useful for every day. As Glossier says, their products will become the backbone of your beauty routine. My skin has been more hydrated and smooth since I started using their products in December.

The brand started as an extension off of the blog “Into The Gloss.” Since then, their brand has skyrocketed. Glossier is a company of beauty editors who have tried it all. They create products that are easy to use, good for the skin and won't break your bank account (which is vital for a college student like myself). The best part is that the company truly makes you feel like a part of their community. They have skin care products, sweatshirts, terry-cloth headbands, lip tints, serums and more. Anything that’s the latest rage, Glossier has it and does it better and cooler.

I mean, come on, just look at that beautiful pink packaging. I don’t even like pink! You always get fun goodies in every package. I’m not going to tell you what it is; you’re just going to have to see for yourself. All in all, like Glossier says, “we are real people over here just trying to rethink the beauty industry and have a good time doing it.” The best part about the brand itself is that they provide videos and photos of every skin type imaginable. This feature takes the guesswork out of online ordering (which is a Godsend).

Last but not least, before Glossier launches any new products, Into The Gloss publishes an open forum asking for advice from their readers—everyday people. Glossier provides what users want, and the company thrives off of feedback. It's a win-win This little, pink brand that has grown into a tremendously successful multi-million dollar company is the best group of friends you could ask for.

Who else can guarantee you perfect skin and happiness?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
