5 Things I Love About The Christmas Season

Why the winter holiday season matters to me.

Now that the thanksgiving season has wrapped, it's officially the winter holiday season. I try not to be that person that starts preparing for this season the day after Halloween, but sometimes it's hard. I love this season for so many different reasons.

1. Gift Giving

I'm not talking about receiving gifts. Yes, that's fun and all. But I enjoy shopping for others. There is just something about seeing people's faces when they open up something I got them. I start planning out gifts months ahead of time, just so I can make sure I get everyone on my list something they'll love. Honestly, gifts are probably my love language now that I think about it.

2. Family time

This is when I actually get to spend time with my family. I never really appreciated this time until I started college. It's nice going home and catching up with the family. It brings a little joy into my life.

3. No School

Three weeks of no papers, projects, or classes...yes please. It's nice having the semester break. It gives me time to relax and not have to worry about due dates. Winter season just lets me know fall school semester is over and I can now have a much deserved break.

4. Change of Attitudes

People generally seem nicer this time of year. I see a lot more people going out of their way to help others. People seem to be more selfless, and I love it. If only we could all be like this year round, maybe the world would be a better place.

5. Traditions

The holiday season means it's time for the traditions. I usually have to miss out on some of the traditions because I'm gone at school, such as picking out and decorating the tree. Though, the ones I am there for, I enjoy. My family does things such as yearly Christmas pajamas, watching movies such as Christmas with Kranks and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and going to the movie theatre to see a new movie every holiday. They allow us to bond, and are things I eventually want to carry on when I have my own family one day.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
