From completely wiping out her social media record to posting coded videos of snakes to the final release of her newest music video, Taylor Swift has certainly raised a few eyebrows lately.

The artist, generally known for a relatively clean image (a feat for modern performers) has startled the world with this sudden turn of personality. Her most enthusiastic fans and even some of us more casual listeners want to know what called for such a dramatic shift? Why does she suddenly want to ditch the innocent "good girl" image that has brought her so much success in her career?

To this, Taylor has one answer:

"The old Taylor can't come to the phone right now... because she's dead."

Let me preface all of my personal interpretations of this shift by saying one thing: Taylor is a human being. She has the right to create whatever life she wants for herself and present it in any manner she chooses. We all have a right to pursue a life that makes us happy, that allows us to be who we are.

This is all that I believe Taylor is trying to do with this new look.

It is no secret that Taylor Swift, much like any public figure, has been plagued and agitated by the mass media. Throngs of paparazzi, cruel online "haters," and even her fellow celebrities seem to be seeking to tear her down at every corner. They're feeding on her failures and shortcomings rather than celebrating her for her success.

Personally, I think this is true of any person that puts themselves in a position of fame. Not everybody is going to like you, that's a universal truth that I, myself, have learned to accept. You can only do so much to please other people before you stop and think, "Why am I allowing all of these people to walk all over me?"

Because of this, I believe that "Look What You Made Me Do" is her own response to that question. She retaliates with "I don't know. Why am I allowing this? What's stopping me from changing the way that things are? Why do I continue to let these people tear me down and feed off my disappointment in their comments." Instead of giving them the continuing satisfaction of her rage, tears, and giving them what they want, she has decided that enough is enough.

Now it is time for her to move on, let it go, and be the artist she truly wants to be. For herself and no one else.

So while the remainder of the world appears to be criticizing this change of pace for the artist, I have decided to praise her. Taylor Swift has taken it upon herself to create a change that she felt to be necessary for her own well-being and her own opinions of herself.

Taylor Swift has decided to lash back with change, yes, but it's time that we face one crucial fact of life: The only thing that is constant is change.
