Long Distance Relationships: Are they for you?
Me

When someone says "long distance relationship," I immediately cringe. I've had my fair share of friends with long distance relationships and none of them seemed to work out to me except for one or two. When someone says long distance relationship, I want to roll my eyes and say "that's is so stupid, it'll never work." But for some people, it works really well.

Now, long distance is not for everyone. There's many different kinds of people out there and everyone feels differently, dates differently, communicates differently and wants different things. I never saw myself in a relationship like that. I liked to have a very physical connection with someone, someone that I could hang out with a lot and cuddle and do fun things with our friends with. I thought it would make me miserable to be in a long distance relationship; until I got into one.

There was a boy I had dated a while back. We lost touch after we broke up and one night we ran into each other at the gas station. There was immediately a flood of emotions from both of us. There was a weird sort of tension between us like things were just left unfinished. Things with us picked up and before I knew it, we were in a full blown relationship. It wasn't long before he told me that his whole family was moving to Florida, 16 hours away.

We decided to try our relationship while he was away and for the most part it was good. I always looked forward to telling him about my day and skyping him every night before bed. However, not having that physical connection and it began to feel very distant from me. I realized that long distance just wasn't working for me.

Long distance doesn't work for a lot of people. You can really truly love someone but because of the distance, it could not go as planned. Long distance relationships require a lot of patience and understanding, along with very very good communication skills and maturity. It also requires a balance of independence and thoughtfulness. You have to be okay with letting your partner do their own thing for a while or vice versa. You have to be courteous to what they want, but you have to make what you want from them clear.

Long distance relationships can be very challenging and takes a lot of dedication, but in the end, it all depends on what you want and how you feel. Long distance is not very everyone, and that's all there is to it.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
