The turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy are decadent. The “I’m thankful for …” posts are sweet and well thought out. And, nothing beats spending time with family, but if we can agree to the saying “Live every day like it’s your last,” why can’t we celebrate Thanksgiving more than just one day out of the year? Why not every day?
Thanksgiving is an important day of the year because it reminds us to express our gratitude, but one Thursday a year does not do this important holiday justice. We need to live thankfully each and every day of the year, not just when the table is set, the turkey is in the oven, and the cousins are over and ready to eat.
It is important to say “I love you” more often, to express our gratitude to those who have served our country more than just once a year, to celebrate our mothers and fathers, not just once, but every day, and to thank everyone who has made a positive impact in our lives, not just occasionally, but regularly.
Sure, the holidays play a key role in bringing people from both far and wide together, but we cannot solely rely on one day out of the year to express our thankfulness for those we are blessed to have in our lives. We should be living thankfully all year long, not just when the calendar tells us to.
So, hug those who are close by you every day, and tell the ones who aren’t how much you miss them. Have your mother teach you how to make pumpkin pie. Spend more time with family, and cherish every moment you get. Share meals with those you love, and provide good company. Eat mashed potatoes and stuffing in March - it won’t matter.
It is always time to be thankful, no matter what is in the oven, or what time of year it is.
