An Open Letter To My Littles

You are a true blessing

An Open Letter To My Littles
Ashley Brickman

To my littles,

I have officially been your big for a week now and let's just say it’s the most exciting role ever. Life as a ‘big’ may sound silly but I have loved every second of it. I love having the most perfect twins in the world and being your mother figure in Alpha Chi. I birthed the two most amazing girls ever (without the painful experience of course), and I am so proud to be your Big that I have adored every second of putting together your big little basket decorating your box, crafting for you, and decorating your doors for Initiation week.

I had been waiting for this moment for long over a year, honestly ever since I became a little, and now you are my littles. I had prayed for a little for such a long time just as Caroline had prayed for me, and God answered my prayers with not only one little, but two. I will admit, I was a little uneasy about the thought of having twins at first because other people had told me that they “would never want to be a twin," or “my twin and I hated each other”. So, that scared me because all I wanted for the both of you was happiness. I fell in love with both of you and I knew right away that I would never have to worry about you two hating each other because you became fast friends. You both compliment each other in so many ways that I am truly blessed.

As your big, I hope you both know that I will be there for you when you cry, when you’re stressed, when you need someone to keep you company so you’re not alone, or even when you want to go get food. I want to be the one you come to with all of your problems, and I hope that I can help you in anyway possible.

I have absolutely loved getting to know you both. I have so much in common with both of you.

Gracelyn, you love all of the same things I do, such as Harry Potter, S’mores, macaroons, traveling. And I love the way you are so confident in yourself and you care about your well-being. You are truly a strong, independent woman.

Meredith, I love the way the room lights up when you are around, and the excitement you get when we talk about something you care about. We have so much in common, and I hope you soon realize how amazing you truly are. You are so sweet, down to earth and such a talented, dedicated woman.

I cannot wait to see how you both grow within Alpha Chi and the amazing leadership you both will bring to your sisterhood. I love you both so much and I am the luckiest mom in the world to have you two.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
