"Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands." - Anne Frank

When your parents tell you not to do something, it often intrigues you to do it anyway. Back in their day, our parents probably did the same. They say, "Don't do this," "Don't do that," and "Stop right now." Even when they say those words, you either pause, walk away or still do it anyway. Our parents have a reason for saying those phrases. They want to give you advice -- Advice to help you in the near future, for your health, and your own benefit. Down below are five things your parents say for a reason.

1. "Don't open your mouth while chewing food."

Your parents do love you, but when it comes to eating food, don't chew with your mouth open. It is disrespectful. Your parents taught you how to eat properly. No one, not even your parents, wants to see your mush food in your mouth. Overall, chew with your mouth closed.

2. "Don't go outside without wearing a coat."

Your parents tell you to wear a coat for a reason. They don't want you to get sick, or catch anything in the cold. They care about your health and you. So, wear a coat!

3. "Don't put your feet on the table."

Putting your feet on the table is not only disrespectful but in the workplace, it is unprofessional. Your parents are teaching you manners before you enter the real world. Think about your parents' advice because, after all, they were born way before us.

4. "Don't cross the street unless you see a signal."

One of the causes of death is car accidents. One of them being a car hitting an individual. That's why when we were young we had crossing guards who made sure our safety to school. You want to be careful where you're going because you don't want to die but live. You may have those days where your parents walk with you as you cross the street and you may be embarrassed, but they are protecting you.

5. "Don't sit close to the TV."

"Don't sit close to the TV." They say it because it can damage your eyes and mess up your vision. It can also lead to a huge headache. So, be careful and listen.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
