If you are unaware of line dancing, it goes a little further than the expected: “dancing in a line.”
Line dancing is when a group of dancers come together to do a choreographed dance repeated throughout a song.
The stereotype is that we are all a bunch of hillbilly hicks dancing around to Big Green Tractor with our boots on.
Just 'cause we dance with boots on, doesn’t make us hicks.
The line dancing community goes so much further than the Southern part of the United States. While I’m here dancing up north, you can find a lot of our European friends LOVE line dancing. They actually are more country than we are!
Many of us can be found dancing to all genres, including a little Ed Sheeran, Walk The Moon and even Eminem, but our friends across the water stick strictly to country music.
Now, if you haven’t been line dancing before but wanna give it a shot, there are a few things you should know before you venture out into the community to try it.
Proper dance floor etiquette is super important. We love seeing new faces but please don’t be rude and be courteous to those dancing around you. Give yourself and your fellow dancers space to move, take small steps and if you aren’t familiar with the dance, don’t try to add spins yet.
DO NOT come in expecting a bunch of people wearing flannel shirts, with boots and hats. Only like 10% of us actually dress like that and it isn’t all the time. If you want to come in dressed that way, go for it, we don’t judge. But don’t come in and parading around being stereotypical.
The most important part everyone should know about line dancing is that you’re there to have fun and dance. Line dancing is great for everyone because you really don’t have to be super coordinated to be able to do it. Just bring your dancing shoes and get ready to move!
