Who knew Parks and Recreation could explain the life of a Political Science student so well?

The life of a Political Science major is exciting and adventurous one our eyes; however, in the eyes of the not-so-political friends, the life of a Political Science major can be a bit difficult to understand. We all have that one super politically active friend we just never quite got, but thanks to Parks and Rec, "that political friend" can finally be understood.

1. You can never have dinner with your friends without striking up a political debate.

Somehow it seems that no matter where you go or what you do, politics are going to come up in the conversation at some point during the night. One moment you're talking about a movie you saw the other night, and before you know it, you're engaged in a heated debate over who the next President should be. There's no escaping political talk at dinner with a Political Science major, no matter how hard you try.

2. Those friends who try to act like they know politics when they really don't

There's always a select few people in the Political Science department who always act like they know everything when in reality, they have absolutely no idea what is going on. We run into people like this in politics on a daily basis and we continue to wonder why they're still here.

3. No matter where we go, we’re always fiercely patriotic

You can always tell a Political Science major because we are typically fiercely patriotic. No matter where we go around the world, we know America is still number one and we're not afraid to show it. We're always comparing our nation to others as we travel abroad, and somehow, our nation still seems to come out on top as the best!

4. We can be a little sneaky in our tactics

Let's be honest, a lot of politics have turned into games where people try to turn each other against one another in order to push our own agendas. While this is a nasty habit to get into, most of us feel the need to get a little practice in this area on fellow college students before we get into the real world. So it's not so surprising that most Political Science students are a little tricky in their ways in order to get what they want.

5. We love working political campaigns

There is nothing more exciting than getting the chance to work on political campaigns, getting the opportunity to see first hand what it really looks like to be in politics. The only problem is we're typically young and inexperienced which can lead to mistakes on the campaign trail here and there. But I guess that's why most young Political Science students aren't trusted with more than a few signs and brochures while volunteering.

6. But sometimes we really hate door knocking for candidates

We love campaigning, don't get us wrong. When you first start volunteering on campaigns, you love knocking doors and talking to voters about the candidate you're supporting. But after knocking on a couple hundred doors, you're about done with people. At this point, while we still loved the campaign and our candidate, we start hating the door knocking gig.

7. We don’t like people who tell us our degree is a waste of time

It's not uncommon for someone to tell us our degree is a waste of time. People love telling us about how little money we will make and how unlikely it is to find a job with a Political Science degree. But we love our degree and wouldn't change it for the world. We're not there to make money, we're there to impact the world, so get off our backs! We love our degree that you think is so pathetically useless!

8. We’re pretty good at winging it in most situations

As a Political Science major, you quickly learn to become the King or Queen of bullcrapping your way out of situations. You can turn a half a page of notes into a five page essay and make your professor believe every word of it. That's honestly how we are in arguments sometimes. We might not always know exactly what we're saying but we promise you it'll sound good!

9. We always have that one friend who goes to political dinners with us but they really don’t know what’s going on

We always have that one person in our lives, whether it's a significant other or a best friend that you always drag to political dinners with you even though they have no idea what is going on. They love being there to support you and love the free food even more, but through it all, you secretly kind of start hoping they catch on to the political part so you can have a dinner buddy that will talk politics with you.

10. Our professors have taught us to be politically correct in our everyday lives

Countless hours of political lectures have pushed you to try to be more politically correct in your everyday lives. Your professors force you to be politically correct in class so now you see these things everywhere. Out of habit your start correcting your friends outside of the classroom, and we know they cant stand us when we do that.

11. You get highly offended that your other friends don’t want to hear your political rants

We love to rant about politics and the problems we see with our government, but not all our friends really like to hear our rants. When our friends tell us they don't care, it offends us, because WE CARE!! We care about the direction of our country and we want everyone else to care too. It blows our minds at the level of carelessness some of of our friends feel towards politics.

12. Trying to get all our secrets off our chest before we become politicians and it shows up in the media

Most of us want to run for a political office at some point in our lives, but we also know we have a few skeletons in our closet. We know we have to get our biggest secrets off our chest before we ever decide to run for office so the media has no leverage on us in the future. We must leave no secret stone unturned!

13. Always thinking politics…wherever we go

No matter what part of the world we're in, we're thinking about politics. We're thinking about our great leaders and the future of our nation. Vacations with Political Science students are always an adventure because we're constantly seeking out places that hold historical and political importance to our nation.

14. We all want to be President someday so we’re always on our best behavior

Sure, as college students we want to go to parties and have fun, but we also know that we want to be President one day so we must stay on our best behavior. We can't have any embarrassing pictures floating around that we don't know about that can ruin our chances of becoming Mr. or Madame President. We know to have fun, but be cautious to make minimal mistakes as well, for the sake of our future.

15. We always remember to slow down and have a little fun every now and again

Politicking is hard and tiresome work. Sometimes it gets to be too much and we need a break away from it all. While we work hard every day to change the world, we also know when we've had enough and need to stop for a breather. We know every now and against it's best to "Treat yo self" so you don't completely nose dive off the deep end! Remembers, politics are great, but it's healthy to take a break from time to time!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
