Since the ripe age of 13, John Mayer has never put down the guitar, giving us pleasure in whatever he produces and plays. Whether it is about falling in and out of love or contemplating the extreme concept of life and death, John Mayer has proven time and time again to be a true master of guitar.
Beginning with his 1999 E.P. release of Inside Wants Out, all the way to his most recent album, The Search for Everything, in 2017, John Mayer has been providing us subtle reminders not only about our relationships but also our life.
A big life lesson in the majority of his songs is that love is a roller coaster.
There will be times of joy and amusement, and times of depression and anger. From "Love is a Verb" to "I Don't Trust Myself," we learn that our emotional relationships are not going to be steady. However, the one thing that remains is that love is there and it will all impact us in some way.
Another big life lesson is that life is a constant and consistent change from one state to another. Whether it's a physical, mental, or emotional change, we all go through it and no one can deny it.
His song "Changing" is evident to this idea. When he says, "I may be old and I may be young, but I am not done changing," it is paramount to our overall existence, whether our change is something as small as cutting our hair or something as big as losing a large weight.
Finally, the most important lesson is to simply love. No matter how much it hurts, just love those people who come in an out of your life. We are all humans, and we all are here for a short amount of time. Just think about how many people you have glanced at or talked to for the last time.
I hope John continues to write us more stories about his love and life to carry into ours.
