Becoming a big sister isn't a choice, at least not one you make yourself. But it can be one of the best things to ever happen. Your siblings teach you more about life than you think.

My sister is my go-to best friend, the girl who I can always trust to give me honest fashion advice and the person who can always make me laugh. I've been lucky enough to face life first, to have experiences and failures that I can now use to teach her to be a better person.

If you're a big sister, consider yourself to be one lucky girl.

Because trust me, it's harder than it looks.

1. Sharing is a must

sharing

And that means pretty much everything. Toys, clothes, makeup (when older), shoes, life advice, family, etc.

2. It's not just about you

me me me

There are still times where you may think it is but in reality there is another person that's constantly around you that also gets attention too.

3. At the end of the day, no matter what,  you still have each other

And you always will.

4. There's always someone in your corner

Always.

5. Family means the most

She's one of the few that understands howe crazy your family is.

6. Life is not always fair and that's ok

not fair

Having a sister teaches you that not everything is going to go your way.

7. Setting a good example is key

Usually, if you did something, she would follow, whether it was something in sports or artistic. Not that you minded much, most of the time.

8. You're a team

It's the two of you against the world.

9. Leadership

"You don't lead by pointing and telling people some place to go. You lead by going to that place and making a case." - Ken Kesey

10. Choosing your words when angry

crying

Because you can't take words that you say back.

11. Compassion

hug

Having a younger sister has taught me about a whole new level of love. She has taught me about how important it is to show her that I care.

12. How to be patient and understanding

be patient

Siblings can sometimes be a pain, especially when you don't want to be bothered but thats what makes them the best.

13. She'll do anything for you, no matter the distance and vice versa

She does it because she loves you and you love her.

14. They shape you into the person you become later on

Without them, you wouldn't be near as much of the caring and kind person you are today.

15. You're never alone

not alone

Literally, she's always around, not just physically but even when you're far away.

16. She's your best friend for life

And you're hers.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
