I learned more about life talking to my Auntie June, than I did in any of my college-level classes.

1. You don't have to have a college education to be educated.

"I only graduated high school, but traveling gave me my education." -Auntie June

I don't think people realize how valuable and educational it is to travel the world and learn about different cultures. If companies accepted world-travelers to be employees the way they accept people with college degrees, I wouldn't be in school!

2. Do what you love and don't settle.

"I just see paintings and I liked them so I bought them." -Auntie June

Life is entirely to short to wear things you don't like or participate in activities you don't enjoy. Do what you love-- nothing less.

3. YES, you can find a husband while traveling.

"My second husband, I met in Italy." -Auntie June
"Let me tell you, he was a handsome Italian dude from Capri." -Granny Max

I'm pretty sure it is every girl's dream to travel the world and find an insanely hot and movie-perfect partner to marry and travel the world with her.

4. Ladies: You can do anything you put your mind to!

She was the first woman salesperson for United Airlines.

You don't need a college degree and you don't need a man. You can literally do whatever you want.

5. The secret to living long? Candy.

"I'll have to hide this candy from myself" - Auntie June

Side Note: My grandma brings her bags of jelly bellies and chocolate every time she visits her and they never last long.

6. You can be an independent woman and still love men.

"He's the only man here so I'm going to give him a hug." - Auntie June, hugging my boyfriend goodbye.

My boyfriend could not have been more happy to receive a hug.

7. You don't have show off your life to the world for it to be interesting.

"That's the G-Rated version of the story of my life." - Auntie June

You can post on social media and make people see everything you are doing, or you can live in the moment and make amazing memories.

8. You can still have fun when you get old.

"We go to the bar at this Chinese restaurant, horrible food, and order wings. You know, the kind with no nasty red sauce. They're big wings, and we sit there for an hour or so. We go other places too." -Auntie June

Don't worry about rushing to do everything when you're young! Just because you get older, doesn't mean you can't have fun and get a little wild every once in a while.

9. Some friends are forever friends.

Auntie June and my grandmother have been friends since before I was born.

Keep those who love to see you grow and want to have adventures with you close!

10. Travel and don't get old.

"If I can give you one piece of advice its to travel and not get old." -Auntie June

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
