Since I was six years old, I've been a musician. I started piano lessons in first grade, and have been singing basically since I could talk. I now play piano, bass, drums, guitar, and sing all the time. I've been blessed to join a band who has produced two CDs and plays every Wednesday night for our youth group.
Any instrument I pick up, I can basically learn how to play with extraordinary ease. Music is my passion, I devote a lot of time and hard work to make improvements in my ability. I spend hours learning new chord shapes on guitar, putting together chord progressions, new piano parts, and writing new lyrics. I love to take the time to learn new instruments and new songs.
Most importantly, I love to listen to music and feel the way it stirs my emotions and how it changes my perspective on parts of my own life. Music is like nothing I've ever experienced before. No matter what I'm going through or what I'm facing, as soon as I pick up that guitar or start writing lyrics, my whole attitude changes.
Music is not only a way to get through life, but it's also a catalyst to good things that have happened in my life. When I joined Chapel, my band, I never would've guessed that we would've released two CDs, played two benefit concerts, and more. I tell most people that Chapel saved my life, because I was facing a lot of dark things when I first joined the band
Although Chapel has been a fun season of my life, I'm getting ready to move on to another season. I'm preparing to go to college, move away from home, and find out who I want to be ten years from now. In all of this change, there is one thing I know for sure, and that's that music will always be a part of me.
No matter where I go, or who I'll be, I know that music will always be a part of who I am. I will play music for as long as I am able, and I will continue to write songs that I hope people all around the world will continue to enjoy.
Music for me is like sports for other people. They graduate high school or college and their career ends, and they can't wait to watch their children become successful (or even pros) in the sport that their parent(s) excelled in. For me, there's nothing I look forward to more than singing and playing instruments with my future kids.
Music is the most powerful and exciting thing I've ever encountered. No matter what is playing, it always manages to change my feelings. It can make me happy, sad, or even angry. It can change my mood from sad to happy and it can make me feel empowered.
I don't know where I'd be without music, but I'm sure glad that I don't ever have to find out!
