If you ask me to let go, I'll probably want to punch you in the face. The thought of relinquishing control is enough to make me turn my head and pretend I didn't hear you. I love to be in control. I love to have all the power, especially when it comes to my life.
I've never been more frustrated than when I've lost control. When the realization hits that I honestly can't do anything to change the outcome, you can imagine how heartbroken I become.
People have this natural desire to maintain control because we always think we know best. Yes, there are many instances where a firm grip on the situation is completely necessary, but more often than not, we're sabotaging ourselves.
Life is not about being in control. Those who have it best are hardly ever in control. They go with the flow. They walk through open doors. They take risks that put them in odd places. Letting go of your need to manage everything might open your heart to something even greater than what you were originally after.
Letting go gives your mind the chance to learn something new and see things from a different perspective. It gives you the opportunity to live a care-free life and not have to worry about every little detail.
Living with a lack of power teaches you how to appreciate things that come your way. You accept that everything can't stay perfect forever, so you spend less time worrying about how to make it last and more time enjoying it while you still can.
There's no reason to be so rigid with your life. Sure, there are benefits to having goals and trying to achieve them, but you have to be open enough to let new things come into your life too. You have to be able to recognize when a greater opportunity shows up and be willing to let go of your old vision to embrace a new one.
This release of control gives you true freedom. Freedom to follow your heart and enjoy your life. How are you supposed to experience something when you're too focused on how to manipulate it? Know that everything will be okay and that you can sit back and enjoy it while it lasts.
Before you know it, years have gone by. Are you still grieving over your lack of control or embracing the situations that have emerged? Don't try to influence every small detail, because you will never succeed.
Letting go is the key to true happiness. When nothing can bother you, life will be more enjoyable. Opportunities will still come your way and good things will still happen. You just need to have the courage to be fearless in pursuit of your own happiness.
