Dear troublemaker(s) with a heart of gold,
I’ve been called insane one too many times for letting people like you into my life. I’ll be the first to admit that people like you are my biggest weakness. It’s not that I have a love for trouble or that I want to drag myself into a rabbit hole I can’t get out of, but I believe in people. You’ve taught me that.
Troublemaker, you are the human version of an explosive just waiting to detonate. As I got to know you I understood structure has never been your strong suit and neither has rules. You’re better at making mistakes than you are at being accountable. People cringe at how you crash into things and disorient life. You’re the legend that pushes the boundaries and the villain that people whisper about in the morning light.
In essence, people want nothing to do with you. They write you off as bad news because you are predictable in your unpredictability.
But I’ve stuck around long enough to see the best in you. I’ve seen your heart of gold in the moments that you chose to help me chase away my nightmares. In the moments when your serving hands outweighed anything it previously broke. When you put your mother first. The way you love your sister more than life. Your heart is gold.
You have taught me that people are oceans and it’s impossible to know someone by their surface. I find it to be the saddest thing in the world when a person writes off another human without knowing their depths. You have showed me that people are more than their mistakes and stories. Troublemaker, I am sorry for being impatient to pass judgment instead of extending love when we first met. I'm sorry that people don't believe that you can be responsible for more than creating a mess. It is my hope that people will give troublemakers, misfits, and rebels like you a chance instead of assuming your image is all that you are. I hope that people will be brave enough to fight their judgments and take the time to become a friend. After all, God loved those who were cast away, too.
Much love,
The person who'll always bet on you
