Being in college, I seem to have lost sight of the people who got me to where I am today. I’ve especially forgotten about that one person who has shaped into the person I’ve become, my mother. Mom, get ready, this one goes out to you.
Dear Mom,
I’m starting this off by telling you how much I love you. I know I don’t always show it and I know I’m not really around these days to show it, but I do. You are the most important woman in my life, and you always will be. Since I was a little girl you have been my #1 hero and the person I’ve always looked up to. I know life is hard for you and I don’t always do much to make it easier, but you sacrifice so much in your life for my sister and I, and it means more to us than we’ll ever be able to express. You are the strongest person I know. You are always so full of love and support, and I am incredibly blessed to have experienced this for the past 19 years. Mom, I love you so much, to the moon and back, and I don’t want you to ever forget that.
Next, I want to say thank you. Two words that mean so little when comparing them to everything, big or small, that you have ever done for me. Thank you for all of the countless hugs. Thank you for that time you let me cry on your shoulder when something was going so wrong. Thank you for going out of your way to do things for me that I didn’t always deserve. Thank you for throwing a different themed birthday party for me every year. Thank you for being my absolute best friend. Thank you for all of the laughs, smiles, lessons, and for all of the constant reminders that, no matter what stupid thing I do, you’ll always have my back and be my #1 supporter. You have proven to me that it is okay to make mistakes, it’s okay to cry, and it’s okay to be who I am.
Lastly, I want you to know that I’m sorry. I’m sorry for all of the times I fought with you, let you down, and for all the times I chose to be with my friends over you. Sometimes I tend to forget the things that are most important to me. I didn’t mean to start a fight with you when you told me I couldn’t go out that one night because you just wanted to sit and watch TV with me. You really do mean so much to me. I don’t express it enough and I definitely don’t prove it when I leave you doing the dishes after dinner to go out with my friends. A lot of the time, you deserve someone who will pay more attention to the little things that you do for everyone.
Overall, I just want you to know how much I love you and I appreciate everything that you do. You truly are the best mom ever and I hope that when I’m older, I can be half the mom that you are. Thank you for everything, mom.
Love always,
Your Daughter
