An Open Letter To The Entitled Customer

I am so over you.

Oh hi there,

I really do not want to talk to you more than I already have to, but I am willing to sacrifice my time in order to get some things off my chest. Hopefully, fingers crossed, you'll get something out of this and try to change the way you talk to employees in the service industry. Or at the very least realize that we are human, just like you, and do not deserve to be treated as anything less.

I could tell from the moment that you walked through those doors that you were going to be "one of those customers". You know, the ones that think the entire world revolves around them. I remember this moment distinctly because as I stood there behind the host stand, with a smile welcoming you through the doors of the restaurant, you ignored my kind words and just held up three fingers. Okay, I thought. Maybe you were just having a bad day and didn't want to talk to anyone-I get that. I've had those days. But, to completely ignore me, and expect to be served...well you got another thing coming to ya.

When I informed you that we had a small wait for a table, not very surprising because it was dinner time, your facial expression shifted to complete and utter disgust, as if you I told you the wait was two hours long and insulted you in the process. You then proceed to talk to me in a condescending tone, angry at me that you had to postpone your dinner by five damn minutes. I am not sure what planet you came from, but on Earth, people tend to be respectful of others-well at least for the most part. Do not be dragging your entitled self into my workplace, being disrespectful for no reason whatsoever, and expecting respect in return. I have worked in the service industry for over five years now, and I am WAY past the point of kissing up to people like you. If you are crippled by the thought of waiting five minutes, you know where the door is, and I suggest you use it.

Unfortunately for me, you did not leave. What you proceeded to do was complain some more, as if I was the problem, and asked to speak to a manager. Well you're just on a mission to make everyone miserable, aren't you? When the manager made their way up to the host stand, you continued your rambling and complaining. I mean, how do you even have the energy at this point? Aren't you tired of hearing your own voice, 'cause I know I am.

"She told me I have to wait for a table, and it seemed like she did not want me here!"

OH, I'M SORRY THAT I DO NOT HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE TABLES APPEAR OUT OF THIN AIR JUST FOR YOU. I'M SORRY THAT YOU'RE SO ENTITLED THAT YOU THINK YOU GET SPECIAL TREATMENT. Also, to answer your question, no I don't really care about you being here because I get paid the same regardless.

All I ask-no, all that WE ask, is that you respect us, and get rid of that God-complex. Realize that we aren't working for fun, this isn't something we just like to do with our free time. Yes, we get paid to serve you, but only to a certain degree. No amount of money is worth you treating us like garbage.

Respect us, and in return, we will respect you. It's pretty easy, just try it next time.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
