A Letter To My Dog

A letter to my dog while I am away at school:

Hi Puppy,

I just want to let you know that you may think I let you down and that I went away forever, but I did not. I bet you think I left you with my parents because I did not want you anymore, which is an even bigger lie. Puppy, just know I miss you and I love you. Those days where I get to see you for a few hours at a time make everything so much better; my mood changes and my energy is increased. You have such a positive effect on me, it is crazy. You are my puppy and nobody else’s. When I call home to mom, it is mainly to talk to you because I miss you and the amount of energy you always have so much. Just know that there is not an hour of the day where I do not wonder what you are up to.

I know you are living the life at home getting all the love and cuddles from my parents, but it just isn’t the same. I know you are having so much fun running through the yard and causing a ruckus in the house. I know you probably don’t think of me as much as I think of you, but I know you do miss me solely because when you see me or hear my voice, you get really excited. I hate when I have to leave you every time because mom always sends me the photos of how sad you are when I am gone. I know you miss me, and I miss you too, but we will be together again soon!

My puppy, you are amazing, young, and still so full of life. Keep on having fun and playing with any animal you encounter. Keep on running around like crazy and playing while destroying your toys, because mommy will be home soon. Remember I love you, and cannot wait to see you again!

Miss you lots,

Mommy <3

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
