Dear Sister,
I'm so very lucky to have an amazing person like you in my life. I take it for granted sometimes, but having a sister like you is truly a blessing. I just wanted to take the time to properly thank you for everything that you have done for me.
1. Thank you for always being blunt with me.
You always tell me like it is. Whether it be that I'm overreacting or acting like a little brat. I honestly appreciate the tough love. You didn't always take my side, but I'm glad that you didn't. Thank you for pulling me back down to earth.
2. Thank you for being my advice guru.
Over the years, you've given me some valuable life lessons. Whether it be regarding friends, boys, school, or our family, you have always been there for me. Even though my problems seemed irrational or minor, you always took the time to listen and give me unbiased advice. As they say, "Who needs a therapist when you have a sister?"
3. Thank you for understanding how crazy our family is.
You understand me completely when I tell you about a crazy family shenanigan. When I tell other people, they look at me like I have five heads. Thank you for being the one who can comprehend the craziness that is our family.
4. Thank you for letting me be the wild child.
Most people would thank their older sister for making the mistakes for them. But in our case, I was more of the problem child. Growing up we were opposite. Like yin and yang, or day and night. We mutually learned from each other. You were the good child, and I was the Dark Half (yes, that is indeed my family's nickname for me). Thank you for being the Amy Poehler to my Tina Fey.
5. Thank you for the childhood torture.
Ye,s, you told me I was adopted. Yes, you told me Santa didn't exist. Yes, you told me ghost stories that gave me nightmares. Yes, you instigated arguments regularly. But the greatest payback of all was when 4-year-old me punched your two front teeth out. Now that we are old enough to look back on these memories, we can laugh about it. You thickened me and you made me a stronger person who is now able to stick up for herself.
Most importantly...
6. Thank you for being my best friend.
You were the first friend that I made in this world. You were my go-to playmate. You still are the first person I go to for advice. When I need to vent, you're always there. You know all of my secrets, and I trust you with them all. You've always told me which friends are true. You know how annoying I am and still love me anyway. Thank you for always having my back. Thank you for always being one call away. Finally, thank you for all the times in the future that you'll be there for me.
