Welcome to the family!

Dear Little,

First of all let me welcome you to your new family, and more especially welcome you to our organization as a whole. I am so excited to call you my little sister and to introduce you to the wonderful things sorority life can bring. Being in a sorority is fun and exciting, but also includes leadership and responsibility. I know that as your big sister I will help you with both of those things, but there are a few promises I want to make to you first.

I promise that no matter what comes between us, I will always be there for you. Distance means nothing when you have a strong bond with someone and, as your big, that bond will never go away. We may have our differences in the future, and we may not always get along, but I promise that I will always be there for you and be a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen. If you want to vent to me about some annoying boy, do it. If you have one class that you are struggling with, I will help you study and listen to you complain about it every day. If your job is getting to be too much and you can’t handle sorority life and your workload, please tell me so I can help you figure something out. One of my jobs as your big sister is to be there and to guide you through things that may be too hard to handle on your own, so please come to me when you need someone!

I promise to never lie to you. If you are acting irresponsibly, I’m going to let you know. If I don’t like your outfit and you ask my opinion, I’m going to tell you. If you’re acting crazy, I’m going to call you out on it. Do not come to me and ask me to tell you the things that only you want to hear. You’re my little, and I don’t want you to do something you’ll regret, so I’m going to say something while I can. I am not letting you make a fool out of yourself and I am not going to let you do something dumb, so don’t even think about it.

Overall, as your big, I promise to the best big sister you could ask for. I will try my hardest to do everything for you that I can, and to help you grow into a full-fledged sorority woman. I promise that no matter what time you need me, I’ll be there. I promise that no matter what happens, I will always care for you and love you with my whole heart. Sorority sisters are for life, not just the time you’re in school and as your big, I fully intend on keeping this promise. I hope that your experience throughout the sorority is as amazing as it can be, but it’s all what YOU make of it. Take leadership roles, participate in events, and become a big sister. That way, you can help another new member feel just as welcomed as you did when you joined!

"I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my little you’ll be."

Love,

Big

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
