Not all best friends have to be together since day one.

A Letter To My Fairly New Best Friend

Dear Best Friend,

We haven't been friends since we were in diapers. We haven't been friends since elementary school, junior high, or even high school. Our parents were not friends before we were. Unlike so many stories that we typically hear about best friends being together since day one, we are different. You've only come into my life recently, in the grand scheme of things, but still our friendship is as important as the others that have been in my life this entire time. Without you, I wouldn't be the same person. Together we've changed each other in so many different ways, all for the best of course.

In the short time that we have known each other, we've had our ups and downs, differences of opinion and, of course, so many great memories. I didn't know it, but the day that I met you my life changed. With you, I have been able to grow into such a better person, looking towards you to help guide me down the right path, and I have done the same for you. We might not have known each other since we were 10, but when I look back when I'm older I know that the memories we've made together are the ones that I'm going to want to relive.

So with this, I wanted to say thank you. Thank you for walking into my life and never leaving. Thank you for sitting inside with me on the days we don't want to leave our house, and the nights where we want to be anywhere but. Thank you for the late-night phone calls and letting me rant about whatever might be going wrong without complaining. Thank you for being you and being my best friend. We haven't known each other for too long, but already we have a friendship that can't be broken. Our journey has just begun, and I cannot wait to see what life has to offer us. So even though we haven't been friends since day one, I can't imagine my life with out you. Thanks for being the best friend I could have asked for.

Sincerely,

Your Best Friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
