Dearest GroupMe,
How you've changed our lives in the past few years.
Remember back in the good old days when everyone began to discover the magic of a group text (which I will lovingly refer to as a group chat aka a GC)? No? Take a trip into the past with me.
It was all fun and games of texting your small group of friends at one time, being all funny and friend-like.
But alas! One day, a terrible truth was realized. Because you have so many friends, of course you want to put more than 11 people in your group chat. BUT YOU JUST CAN'T AS HARD AS YOU TRY.
Tensions are rising, and feelings are getting hurt, but your iPhone 4S just will not let you add in more people.
Before you know it, you have 7 GCs going at one time with too many to count, talking about different topics each minute.
You know what, I'm just going to delete them all as they come in.
As this harsh existence continued, further problems arose. Certain messages would come in separately from the others in the group chats, commonly creating double the GCs that were there previously!
And don’t even remind us about those whose green messages made new groups of their own every time our Droid/Samsung friends would disturb the blue, iMessage peace.
BUT THEN, flash forward into the future, the year 2014.
A new app comes from the mist to grace us with is presence. Its name- GroupMe. Its game- to take away the woes of the normal group chat.
All of the sudden, we can add as many people as we so desire to these said group chats!
As many as your little heart desires, Blake.
Not only can you add in everyone you know AND their mother, but this app also works on WiFi, instead of just on the good ol' cell network. Do you know what this means? GROUPME OVERSEAS. GROUPME ON YOUR COMPUTER. GROUPME EVERYWHERE.
But wait! It's like an infomercial- the deal keeps getting better! You can send pictures, videos, emojis, links, etc. The list goes on an on.
You can name your groups, change your nickname depending on the group, even have a super cute, fun profile picture for yourself!
Lastly, one of the best parts is that if you are say, studying for a test, or sleeping, or for a multitude of other reasons do not give a you know what about what your friends are saying on GroupMe, there's a lovely "notifications off" button. As much as we love our friends and you, GroupMe, sometimes, we just need a BREAK.
So GroupMe, from the bottom of all of our hearts, we would like to say thank you. Thank you for finding us in the depths of our group chat struggles, and giving us the gift we never knew we needed.
Thanks always,
Your fans
