A Letter To The Professor That Refused To Help Me
Wooder Ice

Dear Professor ______,

I wanted to start this letter with your real name but; honestly, I don't think it's worth it. It won't make a difference if I do or if I do not because you're not going to change. I was so excited and interested in taking your class at the beginning of the semester. But now, I can't wait to get out of your class every week.

I've always been the type of student to show up to class, no matter what. Even if your class is every single Tuesday and Thursday at 8 in the morning.

With finals quickly approaching, you made it a point during class that students should come to your office hours. Well, unfortunately, your office hours are during a class that I can not miss. So, I sent you an email asking to meet with you any other time so I could go over my past exams. After a few days, I got no response so I sent out a new email. A few days after that, no email still. It took you a week and a half to respond to me. A week and a half!! And all I got was a measly "Just now seeing this. Meet with me before class."?!

So, I met with you. Or well, I tried. You never showed up. Instead, you walked in ten minutes before class. You basically said you forgot. So, I was told we could meet next class. Well, next class rolled around, I walk into class, you turn and look at me and say the words "I left your folder on the kitchen table."

What did you expect me to do? Be okay? I'm working my butt off for this class trying to bring my grade up. I'm not okay.

It is your job to help the students if they are struggling. It is the student's to show up, pay attention, and ask when help is needed.

I'm trying my hardest. Why don't you help?

I am not being helped to better my education. By you not responding, you are causing my grade to suffer, you are making my GPA suffer.

All I was asking for was a meeting. Not extra credit, not to beg for my C- to be an A. Just. A. Metting. Why must that be so difficult?

I realize I have made a few mistakes this semester, but I am trying my personal hardest, I can guarantee, to bring my grade up before finals. So why, why are you making in this so difficult? Why did you refuse to help me?

Sincerely,

Your struggling student

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
