Dear Random Roommate,
I am so glad that at our school, you are required to have a random roommate for your freshman year. Personally, I was not overly concerned about this, even though many people I knew who had the option of choosing warned me that it would be a nightmare. I accepted it as one of the college experiences that we all inevitably have.
I would highly recommend having a random roommate to other people. There’s really no more interesting way to get to know something than suddenly spending every day in close quarters with them and learning things along the way. I was very lucky to get a roommate that I not only lived well with but also became good friends with.
Honestly, we are so different; sometimes I have no idea how we get along. You dance around the room all the time and that’s kind of weird but I sit there and stare at the wall sometimes and I guess that’s kind of weird too, so it works. I am so glad we finally managed to get a good picture of us since whenever I look cute you’re wearing a cat t-shirt and whenever you look cute I look like I’ve just been hit by truck.
I don’t think people should stress so much about this stuff. We just winged it and it worked out pretty great. As long as everyone in the world agrees to be a considerate person this whole random roommate thing really shouldn’t be that stressful. I remember when we met and our parents moved us in and told about roommate rules and agreements and we politely smiled and nodded with no intention of doing what they told us. I love our open food policy. I think it works great.
I think we work so well because we are both just really chill. Thank you for being so chill. There’s no system, but we both know that I take out the trash because you’re too lazy to and you put new toilet paper in the bathroom when it runs out because I’m too lazy, too. Our laziness compliments each other perfectly! I also love how we do things together. I remember the beginning of the year when I said I was going to make you wear more dresses and you said you were going to make me work out. Neither of those things happened, but at least we failed together!
I’m glad that I got you as a random roommate because in all honesty we probably would have never met or hung out otherwise. If we had the option to choose our roommates and we had met online I doubt we would have picked each other. Thank you for being your awesome weird funny self, thank you for staying home from parties and watching Disney movies with me, thanks for driving me to get take out when I’ve had a long day, and thanks for being my mom and making me do my homework when I don’t feel like it.
See you next year!
