Dear "Future Me",

Today, I turned 18 years old. As a Freshman in college, it's my first birthday away from home. Coming to the end of this semester's classes I've had a lot of down time today and so I've spent a large amount of that time just thinking. I just wanted to write you, the "Future Me," a letter to read when I'm older, when I'm you. Maybe you're having a bad day and want to look back at how you were feeling on such an important day of your life. Maybe you're happy and reminiscing on who you used to be and how you've grown. Whatever the case may be, I hope you're the person I've always wished I would become.

I hope that you appreciate the people around you as much as I do now. I've got some of the best friends I could ask for and they've made me extra appreciative today to have them in my life. Each of them has taken the time out of their day today to make sure I know how important I am to them, and make sure that I know that they care. Always keep people like that close. I hope you have these people, or people as amazing as these in your life forever.

I hope you appreciate your parents as much as I do now. They've done everything they ever could for me and I'm sure they still do for you. Not seeing them today was weirder than I expected, make sure you see them whenever you are given the opportunity. Being a college student has made it impossible for me to see them whenever I'd like and I hope that changes once I'm gone from here.

I hope you're doing what you love. Right now I'm studying visual communications, specifically photography. It's what I love to do. The work is stressful and learning new things is confusing when you've been doing the same old thing for so long. But, I love to do it. While that might not be what I end up doing forever, I hope you're loving whatever it is you're doing.

And lastly, I hope you're happy as I am today. I'm at a school that I love, with my friends that I love, doing what I love. Living a life that I love. And I'm happy as ever.

I hope you are too.

We are all born to do something great.
