An Open Letter To College Girls From A College Guy

Dear College Girls,

Being in college is a tough thing, believe me, I know. So, as a fellow college student, I felt like there are a few things that college girls need to hear and these things, College Girls, you may have never heard from someone before. Or you may have heard these things, but not often enough.

So to begin, I would just like to say that you guys are amazing! It's true. Look at what you guys go through everyday. If anyone says college is easy they are either lying through their teeth or are a genius. College is not easy nor will it ever be and you ladies are dominating. I mean just 100 years ago women weren't even allowed to go to college and now most of the ladies are the ones that are killing it in their respected fields of study. Among you there could be the next Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Ana Patricia Botin, Ellen Degeneres, Hillary Clinton, and yes, the next Beyonce Knowles. I could go on and on with the list of amazing women and someday, you ladies will be on that list.

Now college may be tough, but what is even tougher is the responsibility that college brings. Just yesterday you had to raise your hands to go to the bathroom. Now you are dealing with rent and house hunting and buying groceries and taking tests and doing homework and dealing with break ups and applying for internships and looking for jobs and worrying about the future! It's incredible that somebody can deal with all that. And you ask yourself why you're tired all the time. Even through all of that responsibility, the women of college campuses everywhere are rising up and taking control. They're saying,"No way, test. Not today!" or "Three jobs, no problem!" or even "Hello, future--I'm not scared of you!" and it's true. College girls deal with so much in one day that it seems like this is the most amount of responsibility you will ever have while also having the most free time ever.

With the future dwindling in the headlights, I will also say this and it will be very cheesy and I know you have heard it before, but it is worth mentioning. College girls, you can be and do anything you want. The future is there and it is looking pretty awesome with the lineup of college ladies set before us. Some of you may have no idea what you want to do and that is totally fine. That's what college is for. Try as many things as you can and find what you're passionate about. Life only happens once so make it the coolest and most amazing life ever! Be a lawyer. Be a doctor. Be an accountant. Be a writer. Be a social worker. Be a famous singer or songwriter. Be anything, because no matter what, the college girls of today, yes, you, are going to do amazing things.

OKenough with the cheese. Now it's time for something a little personal. On behalf of all of the college guys out there I would like to apologize. I want to apologize for all the times we have made you feel inferior, or hurt, or heartbroken. I could blame it on being stupid cause we're guys, but I'm getting tired of saying that. It's because we're acting like boys, and ladies, you deserve men.

Now, one final note. Ladies, this letter is simply to encourage you. It's to show that college guys do watch you (not in a creepy way) and we see that you guys are amazing! So, be amazing. Be the future. But most importantly: be yourself. Because you are coolest you that you can be. Good luck and goodnight.

Sincerely,

A College Guy

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
