To the man that will love my best friend,
You're going to think her dad is protective but just wait until you meet me. I'm her best friend, her other half, and the first person she'll turn to if you break her heart. I'll know more about you than you probably will want me to. I'll even go as far as to checking your twitter favorites and pictures you've been tagged in on Instagram. By the end of my social media stalking, I'll know the name of your cousin's boyfriend and how you asked that one girl to the homecoming dance your freshman year. It's not that I'm out to get you and it's not that I want you to hate me. It's just that I won't really mind if you do because the simple matter is that you aren't just in love with any girl, you're in love with my best friend. If you hurt her, I hurt you. See how that works?
My best friend deserves a man that appreciates every aspect of her crazy, beautiful, and sometimes sassy self. She deserves a man that will surprise her just so he can see her eyes light up, a man that's willing to embarrass himself just to hear her laugh, and a man that will never break a promise. Be sure to let her sing in the car, and tell her she sounds magnificent when she asks (because I know she will). Take her to get that milkshake she's craving at midnight, and go see that new Nicholas Sparks' movie that really doesn't interest you at all. Invest time in her. Go out of your way for her because she's out of your league. My best friend is one of a kind and should be treated so. Please, don't go a single day without realizing the beauty of her heart, the sweetness of her thoughts, or the generosity of her nature.
I know that one day you'll occupy her every thought, you'll make up most of her dreams, and she will most definitely talk more about you than she does me (that one's hard to accept). I'm sure your ears will hear secrets from her even I haven't heard and I know you'll foster an intimate bond with her no one else has ever had. However, just remember that she was my best friend long before you fell in love with her. I'm not going anywhere. So yes, to answer your question, it is normal to feel like you're the one third wheeling when we all hang out.
I don't expect you to be perfect. Well, wait... who am i trying to kid? I do expect you to be perfect because I wouldn't want to see my best friend with anything less than.
With (some) love,
Her Best Friend
PS- Naturally, I'll always be by her side.
