Let's face it: Arizona is hot. We all know it, and it feels as if there is no way to escape the heat unless you go somewhere out of state. If you are a local of Arizona like me, you will know that there is so much more than just desert and heat here in this great state. Contrary to popular belief, we actually have seasons here just like any other state, but you have to know where to look. For the past nineteen years, I have been all over Arizona, and have found some beautiful spots to enjoy during the summer months.

Here are the best of the best.

1. Oak Creek Canyon

Located about two hours away from Phoenix, this northern destination is perfect for exploring in the summer. This area is very close to Sedona and Slide Rock as well. There are cute little restaurants that are around this area, and the drive up is absolutely beautiful. It is so fun to see all the green trees as you are driving through curved roads.

2. Prescott

The former capital of Arizona is a cute little town to visit for the day. It is only about one and a half hours away from Phoenix, so it makes the perfect little turn around trip. Prescott used to be the original home of Grand Canyon University as well, so naturally, it is a pretty cool city. There are many lakes surrounding the city where you can kayak, hike, paddle board, and enjoy the outdoors.

3. Havasu Falls

Okay, so this place is pretty far. Like Grand Canyon far. However, it is insanely beautiful. I have not personally been there yet, but judging by the pictures, I definitely want to check this place out. This is more of a weekend trip, but it would definitely be worth it.

4. Jerome

This cute little town is one of my personal favorites. This city is located about two hours north of Phoenix and is a fun drive. There are so many winding roads that lead you to this town that are kind of scary but exhilarating. There is a haunted hotel located at the top of a hill in Jerome, and you can eat lunch at the restaurant there are well. I love anything scary, so this town is just eerie enough to peak my interest. There are so many cute shops and restaurants that are within walking distance as well.

5. Bisbee

Bisbee is located about three and a half hours south of Phoenix and is another cute little city Arizona has to offer. This former mining town is full of history and all of the buildings are cute and colorful. There are ghost tours you can take, and plenty of restaurants and shops to make a successful day trip. This city is so cute, and I love visiting Bisbee.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
