Let's Enjoy The Holiday Season And All Its Happiness

The holidays are quickly approaching and that means food, family, and even more food! October through December are always magical months due to the overwhelming amounts of preparation that needs to be done for every holiday but even with all the stress induced, it is still enjoyable. I love all holidays but the holidays that are near the end of the year are something really special.

We get to start the season with scares and candy. It honestly doesn’t get better than that. Halloween is always a good time for my siblings and friends. We get to run around town pretending that we are superheroes, baseball players or just a poor college student. You can never be too old to trick-or-treat because it’s free candy. After a successful night, we indulge in the endless calorie fest. There aren’t any regrets.

We are able to enjoy giving thanks to our family and friends and reminiscing about the year. It’s a special time where the whole family can come together and enjoy a meal. We get to see cousins, aunts, and uncles that we haven’t seen in months. Family members come from out of town and sit at the same table as the rest of the family for a while. The cousins get to catch up with their crazy stories that have happened throughout the year. The food. Oh, my gosh the food! grandma makes the classic foods and each family member brings something special that they handmade or quickly got from the grocery store. Either way, it’s a special time with special people.

Oh, Christmas. It is definitely the most wonderful time of the year. We enjoy the white, fluffy snow and hot chocolate. Christmas music has been playing on the radio for the past month but you know deep down you can never get sick of listening to Santa Clause or reindeer. There are endless Christmas movies playing on TV and events going on around town. Walking the streets and seeing Christmas decorations in every store and house makes you happy to know that for a little bit people aren’t arguing or fighting but enjoy the season with each other. Christmas Eve is spent with family and you all once again get to enjoy sitting around the table together and exchanging gifts and stories. The uncles share stories about each cousin and grandma can make every feel loved. Christmas day is spent with your family as everyone wakes up at 6 am and try to patiently wait to open up presents. As wrappers fly through the air you fill whole.

New Year’s is a time to remember all the things you have done through the past year. The good, the bad and the ugly. You may have had your ups and downs but at the end of it all you survived. You make your goals for the next year that you are hoping you are able to keep. It might have been a tough year but you’re ready to do it all over again.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
