What if you simply devoted this year to loving yourself? Easier said than done, right?
This year, stand in front of the mirror every morning without judgment. Judgement from the voice inside you that displays all your flaws in front of you like a platter. Instead, scream out loud. Scream the things you love about yourself. Write them on the mirror in front of you. Starting somewhere is the first step.
Loving yourself means forgiving yourself. You are so much more than mistakes you've made. Forgive the time you let someone in that shouldn't have, let go of the moment you decided not to choose for yourself, forgive yourself for accepting less than you deserve. You might need to do this more than once, for it to finally settle in your head and that is okay!
This year, remind yourself that you are enough. You can do anything you set your heart and mind to. You can get those straight A's, you can follow your dreams, you are loved. You are enough. You are more than enough.
Loving yourself is reminding yourself that you can't please everyone. There will always be someone in this world who does not approve of the things you do, the words you say or the choices you make, and we have to learn to accept that. You can't please everyone, you can't help everyone (even if you wanted to). There's only so much you can hold on your boat before you sink. Your priority is pleasing yourself.
This year, give yourself time; time to heal from heartbreak of the past, time to accept you are who you are. This can take a very long time, but be patient with yourself.
This year, take some alone time. Make sure you have some moment of everyday to yourself to process your day, your mind and most importantly your feelings. Document the moments you feel most in love with yourself; body and mind. This can prove to you that it's possible.
Remind yourself this year that it's okay to love yourself; it's okay be to happy. It is so easy to get caught up in the way people may be thinking of you, easy to tell yourself you aren't pretty enough, aren't loved enough. This year, be a warrior because even though it's harder to love yourself, it's worth it and in 2018 you'll be thankful you did so.
