Forty nine people dead, and 53 others injured. It's the deadliest shooting in US history, all because one man, whose name is insignificant, decided to go into a gay nightclub, Pulse, in Orlando, Florida, and fire rounds into a building with more than 300 patrons.

This incident has turned out to be the deadliest shooting on US soil and "the nation's worst terror attack since 9/11" according to CNN.

I am not writing this article, however, to inform you of the events that ensued, or specifically, the events that led up to the attack. I am hear to plea, to ask you, the reader, to not make the same mistake people in our country, the United States of America, have made in the past.

What inspired this article was, ironically, the first article I read on the Odyssey. The author of the article I will not name, for I am not trying to personally slander, nor offend any person specifically. However, I do not agree with a large majority of the person's ideas; and it is also not just this one person who believes in these ideas.

To sum up, and clarify, the ideas I am referring to, I will say this: I do not believe that it is right to condemn any person based on their religious views, or target a person based on their origin. If you are going to set vigorous standards for any race or people of a specific race or origin for the safety of the citizens already here, then it should be set that way for every person regardless of race, religion, or origin.

I would also like to clarify this: I do think there is a serious problem, and I am not blind to the fact that many of the recent attacks in the US were terrorist related and related to the same group; and I do feel that there should be extensive background checks and strict standards when letting any person into our country.

However, I do feel that the standards should be set in place and enforced vigorously pertaining to every individual, not just a specific group or creed. It is not right, and may ultimately cause more harm than good, in the long run.

There was a time when the United States of America forced every person of Asian descent into concentration camps, and there is a reason why they were disbanded and remembered only as a mistake: because you cannot categorize every person of a specific race or religion based on a small percentage of a whole.

Today, in America, there are more than 300 million people, and aside from Native Americans, our ancestry all has roots in different parts of the world where different religions are prominent. It's true that with circumstances like that, and the fact that so many people have moved away from where their ancestors first lived, that new ideas, extremist ideas included, would form.

It's also true that with a world so large, and with so many people, different ideas, whether good or bad, would emerge and corrupt so many that are not corrupt to begin with, but that doesn't mean that every person associated with that specific group is also corrupt unwilling to cooperate.

I'm asking you please, with your own beliefs in mind, take a second and think about the past, to learn from it, and understand why we cannot condemn an entire group of people because an extremist group has emerged.
