7 Magically Superb Lessons I Learned From Harry Potter

I have always loved Harry Potter. Everything about it fascinates me. I've watched the movies and read the books countless times, and it never gets boring or repetitive. I've been able to pick out numerous lessons and quirks that can truly be applied in real life situations, and the following are just a few.

We don't always get what we want, but we always get what we need.

When Harry was fighting the snake in the Chamber of Secrets, of course he wanted Dumbledore to be alongside him. It would have been much easier and more encouraging to have his help, but Harry received Godric Gryffindor's sword and was able to kill the snake.

We have to be brave.

Life can be scary, from uncomfortable encounters with strangers to different events that can complicate our lives. However, we always have to be brave and put our best foot forward to be able to handle these situations. The best way to conquer anything is to dive right in, and to do that, we have to be strong in who we are.

We will lose the people close to us, but they still remain in other ways.

Harry lost so many important people in his life. From his parents, to Sirius, to Dumbledore... the list really goes on and on. However, death is inevitable and that is something we must all realize. Just because the people we love aren't always physically here with us, I am a firm believer that they never really leave. I know my granny always protects me; after all, she does have the best view of me.

All we need are a few good friends.

Harry doesn't have a huge group of friends in school, but he has his two best friends that are always there for him. He manages to always get by with their help, and I find that remarkable. Truly, a few good people can make all the difference in the quality of our lives.

People aren't always what they seem.

No, we can't take Polyjuice Potion in real life, but that still doesn't mean people are exactly who they come off as. Make sure you get to know people before marking them off as a friend or enemy.

Accept love from everyone, no matter their appearance.

If someone cares about you, accept it and be thankful! Dobby was not the cutest thing around, but he adored Harry and was always there to help him out.

Believe in what is destined to happen.

Everything in life is already planned out, so just take it day by day. What is meant to happen always will!

There are so many more lessons to be found and learned in Harry Potter, and I hope you enjoy finding them as much as I do!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
