5 Lessons I Learned On My Recent College Weight Loss Journey

Don't just force yourself to start losing weight quickly.

I recently started my weight loss journey about two weeks ago and I already lost eight pounds. I know that there are so many people wanting to learn how they can lose weight, so here are some of my tips on how I lost weight efficiently.

1. Despite what society tells you, you are BEAUTIFUL!

I cannot express this enough. Our society is always telling us that beauty is defined as having a small waist, a thigh gap, and curves. However, the girls you see in magazines are pretty much fake. Many models get plastic surgery done in order to look a certain way but you were created by God to be a beautiful girl. So next time you look in the mirror, don't feel discouraged. Instead, tell yourself that you are beautiful and I promise you, it'll revolutionize the way you think about yourself.

2. The first few days are tough

I really mean this one. When you want to start working out, you feel motivated and energetic but when you actually start working out, it's like the end of the world. Though the first day may be hard, keep working hard and if you keep persisting, you will see great results.

3. Start small and work your way up

Don't just force yourself to start losing weight quickly. The most important step in weight loss is starting small. You could begin by cutting out sweets and soda out of your daily diet! Remember, it takes a while to see results. Keep pushing and soon, you'll be working hard towards your goal.

4. Rest days are OK

Don't stress yourself out. Putting all your focus on losing weight is going to make you go crazy so be sure to take a rest day every week. Every day, we put a lot on our bodies, and our bodies need a break from working so hard. Don't feel bad for taking a rest day- even bodybuilders take rest days.

5. A great support system is KEY

It is very, VERY difficult to lose weight without support. Having someone repeatedly motivate you and encourage you to keep working hard will help you pursue your goals. The idea of losing weight can be a huge stress factor for many people so it is important to have someone be of good encouragement to you. Share your goals and your accomplishments with someone, and as you grow towards reaching your goal, you'll be glad you had someone see you work hard till the end.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
