13 Things I've Learned From 13 Years Of 'Supernatural'

In This Article:

"Supernatural" has been on for 13 years. It has taught a lot of people a lot of things. Here are 13 things I've learned from it.

1. Family is what you make it

media.rbl.ms

"Just because you're blood doesn't make you family." Dean, Sam, Bobby, Cas. They've all had great quotes about family. They have shown me that sharing blood means nothing. The people that care most about you are your family.

2. Face your fears. It might be funny

vignette.wikia.nocookie.net

Sorry but Yellow Fever will forever be my favorite episode because of this. However, on the show, the boys are constantly facing their fears, whether it's clowns, airplanes, kittens, or each other dying. They've threatened God and killed Death. They literally shouldn't be afraid of anything.

3. The driver picks the music

Shotgun shuts his cakehole. Don't touch my music on a roadtrip. Just don't.

4. There is always time for pie

i.pinimg.com

Dean Winchester is the only person that could convince me to try pie. It hasn't happened but he could do it.

5. Carry on

pm1.narvii.com

Okay. Maybe this one was Kansas but how many of you would know about Kansas if it weren't for Supernatural? I've learned that there will, mot likely, be peace when you're done with a hard situation. If there isn't peace, Carry On.

6. There's nothing like the classics

thenewswheel.com

Classic cars. Classic music. There is nothing like a classic. Look at that car!

7. Death is inevitable

vignette.wikia.nocookie.net

Death is coming for everyone. It's okay. Pick up the pieces and fight for what is right.

8. Your parents sacrifice so much for you

i.pinimg.com

Your parents may not literally give up their lives for you but they kinda do. They put their plans on hold to protect you, They will put their lives on the line for you. Your parents sacrifice more than you will ever know.

9. Vampires are (sort of) real

Yeah. That's right. Sterling K Brown was on Supernatural

vignette.wikia.nocookie.net

Maybe there is no such thing as literal vampires BUT there are people that will suck the life out of you. They want your money, your life, your time. They suck you dry and leave you alone. So, there are definitely vampires.

10. Crossroads............... Avoid them

vignette.wikia.nocookie.net

Bad things happen at crossroads on this show and in real life. Crossroads are where the boys have made stupid deals. Crossroads are where a lot of accidents happen in real life. Go the long way if you have to and avoid crossroads.

11. There is something after the end

media1.tenor.com

Hi! Welcome to Supernatural where we narrowly avoid the Apocalypse once a year, possibly twice if Lucifer is free. But seriously. If you think it's the end of the world for whatever reason, there is always something better coming after your version of The Apocalypse.

12. Everyone has a story

imagesvc.timeincapp.com

Don't judge a book by it's cover. The book might reveal and amazing angel but the cover is warn and tattered. You'll never know if you don't pick it up.

13. Family is forever

makingislands.files.wordpress.com

This quote means a lot more when you realize that every single hunter calls every other hunter their family on the show. I end where I began because family is so important to the show and it is important in real life. When everyone leaves you, your family remains.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
