You can learn a lot from movies, in fact, I learned more from movies than I ever have in school. When I was a little girl Cinderella taught me to always be kind to others no matter what, When I got into Middle School, the entire cast of High School Musical taught me that I don't have to stick to the status quo, that I could do whatever interested me. I took all of those lessons to heart, but the most important message that I have learned is from Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
One of the most iconic lines from that film is "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around every once in a while, you could miss it." I didn't necessarily understand this line when I first watched the movie, but as I grew older I really started to understand the lessons that Ferris Bueller was trying to teach me.
I suffer from anxiety and depression, and sometimes being stuck in the same routine for a while can make me extremely anxious, so during my senior year of high school I started to take a few lessons Ferris Bueller and I took a day off every once in a while. Sure, it may not have been the best thing for my academic success, but mentally I was doing just fine.
During those days off I would occasionally watch the movies I was dying to see, I would make impromptu trips downtown (even though I could have risked my mom catching me), and I would eat all the popcorn and pizza a girl could ask for. Sure, I wasn't doing anything as thrilling as jumping on a parade float and lip sync to the Beatles (I mean that stuff only happens in the movies right), but I did start to appreciate the world around me a bit more.
Life shouldn't be taken so seriously. What are you going to regret more when you're older the fact that you made some amazing memories when you were supposed to be in work or school, or the fact that you didn't.
