After 23 years, four Oscar nominations, and his very own meme, Leonardo DiCaprio has finally won the Academy Award for best actor. Let’s be honest: we all knew this was coming. After picking up a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for his role in “The Revenant” as Hugh Glass, a revenge-seeking frontiersman, it seemed likely that DiCaprio would also be taking home the award that has been eluding him since his first nomination for “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” DiCaprio beat out last year’s winner Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl) and Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs) for the Oscar and used his acceptance speech as a platform to address global climate change.
Although DiCaprio is by no means the only talented actor to have (previously) never been awarded an Oscar, there is an entire meme dedicated to the 41-year-old’s quest for an Oscar, some of which are pictured below:
Now that he has won the Oscar, we are all looking forward to seeing what DiCaprio will do next.
