My girlfriend and I don't spend a lot of time cooking. She'll normally make one big meal over the weekend, and then we'll eat it for the whole week. However, she was recently gifted some 'Hello Fresh' meals, so we were in the kitchen making something fresh almost every day this week. The food was absolutely delightful, but the meals are expensive at about $60 a week for the cheapest option. Nonetheless, we learned a lot this week and had some fun with it.
The first meal was the 'Salmon Limone' which was paired with couscous. We don't normally eat fish, and we weren't as well acquainted with our stove as we thought, so we ended up burning the fish a bit. This meal didn't go as well as we had hoped, but we figured out the right temperature and timing for cooking a filet of that size.
We then tried the 'Creamy Cilantro Steak Bowls' which we executed much better and came out delicious. This time I started making it while she was on the way home from work, and she just started helping out when she got home. I realized while making this meal how much fun cooking can be when I have an idea of what I'm doing.
I started making the 'Bulgogi Chicken Tacos' a little earlier than the meal from the day before, and this time it was practically ready when my girlfriend got home. While making the last 'Hello Fresh' meal, I found myself getting sad that this was the end. There was no way we could subscribe despite the satisfactory quality of the meals and the convenience, but I thought that perhaps there's a way I could make some fresh food a few times a week for me and my girlfriend to eat when she gets off work.
We're going to the grocery store tomorrow and I have some ideas for meals we can try out. Making the food was really enjoyable, and it was even better to know that I was taking some of the workload off of my girlfriend while providing her with a fresh meal. She works full-time while I only work part-time, so I'm grateful for this experience with 'Hello Fresh' because it has inspired me to cook for her as much as I can.
