Death. One word that connects the entire world. Everyone has experienced it. Whether you've lost a family member, a friend or a pet, death takes a toll on everyone around it. Losing a loved one is one of the hardest things for your heart to endure, regardless of how close you were to the person.
When it comes to the loss of a loved one, there's always one question everyone has caught themselves asking. Why? Why did this have to happen to him/her? Why didn't I try harder to spend more time with that person? Why did God let this happen? I find myself asking the last question more often than the others. If God is so great and mighty, why did He take someone so wonderful away from everyone? Of course there are situations that were never in God's plan, but they do happen and we need to know the difference between the two.
In my almost 21 years on this planet, I've seen a lot of death. There's really no way to prepare yourself for it, because most of the time it happens in the blink of an eye and there isn't anything you can do to prevent it. It's times like these that we, as Christians, need to remember that regardless of what happened, God is with us and will always have a plan to get us through. I know from experience that after someone dies, it may seem easy to let yourself think that you've been abandoned and left alone, but God never leaves us and I have found that it's easier to turn to God with my emotions than it would be to talk to another person.
When tragedy struck again this year, I was reminded that God is always present, no matter how alone I felt. The amount of love I received from the people around me just reminded me that God was with me. I was reminded how precious life is and how it could be taken away in the blink of an eye. In the last two weeks, which has felt like forever, I was reminded that I need to live my life to the fullest because it doesn't last forever, but most importantly I was reminded that I need to be thanking God for giving me this life.
No matter what, bad things will happen. Tragedy will always be there. We may think that the smallest things we do to make the situation easier won't ever be enough. But no matter what, God's plan will happen. God will always be there. God will always be enough. We have to look to Him to find the light when all we see is darkness. God is good, all the time.
Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track."
Isaiah 43:2-3 "When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you. When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down. When you’re between a rock and a hard place,it won’t be a dead end — Because I am God, your personal God, the Holy of Israel, your Savior."
