I Learned To Love Myself Because...

It's easy to pick yourself apart, but here is why you shouldn't.

If you have ever found yourself flawed, then you understand how hard it is to learn to love yourself. Over the last couple of years, I have struggled with an ongoing mental battle of learning to accept and appreciate who I am. During that time I have compiled the reasons why I believe self-love should be a priority. Here's why:

1. You learn to try something new.

When you start to accept yourself, you learn that your strengths sometimes lead to new things. This could lead to a new style, a new hobby, and a new source of happiness. When we try to change ourselves, we back ourselves into a corner. Self-love opens our eyes to the world around us.

2. It brings so much happiness into your life.

When you ask most people what their goal in life is, their response is happiness. The foundation to being happy is self-love. When you can be happy with yourself, you can be happy about the things around you.

3. It allows others to love themselves.

When you love yourself, others learn they can do the same. Think of it as being a self-love ambassador. You never know who is looking up to you. If you can show people that everyone is their own kind of perfect, the world will be filled with love.

4. A little confidence never hurts.

Now I'm not saying to be arrogant, but you should own what you got. When you have confidence, the energy leads to self-positivity. You can be confident about anything, and it will always show. It shows everyone that you love yourself for you.

5. People will always try to put you down, but that's okay.

There will always be people who thrive off of tearing people down. When people try to break you, it's not because of you. They just want to make you feel bad to make themselves feel better. When you brush off their attacks, you become a pillar of self-love. You show the haters that you can love yourself even when they throw rocks.

6. You realize not all flaws are bad.

Flaws will always have a negative connotation, but it doesn't need to be that way. Your flaws make you who you are. Your flaws make you hashtag flawless. Everyone has flaws, and they can't destroy us. Flaws make us stronger, and they let us raise our level of perfection.

7. Being perfect isn't real.

There is no definition when it comes to human perfection. We are all our own person, so we each have to define what "perfect" means to us. Our definition of perfect is ourselves. No matter what you are, you will always be perfect- but we need to learn that everyone's perfect is different. And that's okay!

8. You learn to laugh at yourself.

We all need a good laugh every once in a while, and sometimes that has to come from ourselves. When we mess up or do something stupid, it's absolutely okay to acknowledge it and have a good laugh. When you laugh at yourself, it's easy to learn to love yourself.

9. You find your true self.

No one will ever be a better you than you. I know that sounds cliche, but it is definitely true. When we love ourselves enough to be ourselves, we add so much to the world around us. When we try to be like others, we don't add anything positive to the people around us. When you love yourself, you find all the answers about yourself.

10. There is only one of you.

I think this one is pretty self explanatory. We are all different, but that is what makes the world so great. When you accept yourself, you can do everything that you want to do. You elevate the only you. You add a uniqueness to the world. You get to add the special, wonderful you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
