The Fallout series is one of those truly wonderful games that I encourage everybody to play at least once. Set in a Retro-future, post-nuclear apocalypse America, Fallout is one of those great games that lets its guiding hand off of the player's shoulder and says go nuts. The game lets you do whatever you want, because hey it’s the apocalypse. But here’s the thing, you really learn a lot about yourself and the person you are when you role-play in a setting like that. So here are some things that you’ll learn about yourself playing Fallout.
1. Creating Your Character is Painstakingly Difficult
The magic of Fallout is you get to play an alternate version of yourself by customizing the character to look like you. The only problem is, this is long and painstakingly difficult. You want to start your adventure, but you’ve spent the last thirty minutes going through the different noses to get yours just right.
2. You’ll Start Choosing Fallout Over A lot of Things
Fallout's addictive, mostly due to its incredibly immersive world. It’s easy to say goodbye to your girlfriend at 11:30am, start playing, then say hello to her from the same spot at 11:30pm, because you haven’t moved all day, forgetting to eat, surviving on flat diet Dr. Pepper and whatever chip is within the immediate reaching distance .
3. Your Inner Sociopath Can Come Out
Let's face it, in the apocalypse it's a dog eat dog world, and usually what you want is between a flashy meat bag known as your fellow human, and your laser rifle.
4. You’ll Do Anything for Your Dog
One of your first friends you’ll ever get in the game, your dog is your best friend through and through. So, eventually something or somebody will attack your dog, whether you started it or not, and it really doesn’t matter that you may have been stealing their food. Seeing somebody attack your dog will turn you into a bloodthirsty rage monster like Rush Limbaugh at the buffet table .
5. You’ll Regret Certain Actions
Double-crossing a guy in a chemical deal gone bad? Cool. Just don’t be surprised when his friends come after you and his daughter is looking for her dad. Good job, you monster.
