Fall will soon be upon us which means back to school, holidays like Thanksgiving and Halloween, and the leaves will be changing color. Thousands of people travel by car, plane, and even boat to see the hillsides lit up with yellow, orange, and red leaves. If it rains at just the right time, one day the colors pop just that bit brighter and instead of changing gradually it happens all at once.

One day you could wake up and everything has shifted from smatterings of color here and there to the brightest oranges and reds you have ever seen. After one rainfall, even that can change. One rain to bring on the color and one rain to knock everything down.

The great thing about fall is that when every splash of color falls off the trees in Connecticut, all you have to do is start driving north. Going up Route 1 would be a long although particularly beautiful way to follow the leaves as the change along the coast. 95 has some great scenic areas as well and there are plenty of places to pull over and enjoy the view all the way through New Hampshire and Maine.

Leaf peeping can take you in any which way or direction. It could be considered adventure in and of itself, a vacation even. Around October the mass migration north begins, hotels and B&Bs and everything in between gets a boost of business. Route 1 takes roughly about 13 hours to travel but going up 95 would take about six to eight. It is quite possible to make a leaf peeping journey and never have to spend money on anything except gas and food.

Driving isn't even required to be honest. Hiking through the woods is just as effective, riding a bike, horse, a pogo stick could even be an effective mode of transportation. A pogo stick wouldn't be my first choice however, that takes a lot of balance, coordination, and skill I have yet to develop.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
