So last week it was rough to be an employee for a large corporation, specifically tech companies like Apple and Yahoo. Businesses go through tons of experimentation, new products, and negative reactions to the company's products or services. So this week, I thought I would talk about some businesses that had a rough week.
Yahoo Inc.
The world's second or third best technological company. It's not as fast as Google, and not as effective at identifying online hackers, specifically international Russian hackers. According to Robert McMillan of The Wallstreet Journal, "Yahoo Inc. executives detected hackers in their systems in fall 2014 who they believed were linked to Russia and were seeking data on 30 to 40 specific users of the company’s online services". In other words, Yahoo Inc. seemed to be hacked in 2014 and the news just broke out this year. Over 500 million individuals were hacked by Russian hackers, an issue Yahoo has taken criticism for, because the information has just been now released.
Apple Inc.
If you have the new phone update, the iOS 10, then you may have experienced the struggle. There are of course positive benefits of having the new iPhone features, especially the iPhone 7, but there are some features that irritate consumers, specifically the lock screen. When consumers originally want to access their phone, the lock screen is easily accessed by swiping right or left. That was before the iOS 10 happened. Now, with the iOS 10, consumers were unaware that in order to access their phones they have to click and hold the home button. With the new feature, quite a few users downloaded the feature, yet was given no instruction on what the changes include.
Also, the new iPhone 7 has strike much controversy. Wireless headphones are criticized because they can be easy to lose, and the new phone finally is water resistant. Water resistance has been a late feature on smart phones. The Galaxy Samsung 6 did that about a good year ago. Remember those commercials with Lil Wayne pouring champagne over his phone, and then dipping it into a fish tank?
With the problems within the companies, there are many learning outcomes that are taught for Apple and Yahoo Inc: communicate to the consumers and their media. It's common sense that when businesses communicate with their consumers and keep them informed about essential changes and updates, their customers are happy. Happy customers continue purchasing and doing business with companies. It's just that simple.
