Lady Gaga is arguably one of the best performers of our time. Making her way onto our radios with "Just Dance" a few years ago, onto our televisions with her infamous meat dress and now even our Facebook news feeds with her empowering interviews, Gaga is bold, she is a risk taker and a badass. She does what she wants and owns it all, something we could all take from her. The Mother Monster is a fashion icon as well as an extremely talented artist. She currently has four albums out, and while we have all heard her chart toppers, there are a handful of songs that deserve your Spotify just as much. Most of her songs make you want to dance and feel like a badass. Give them a listen!
1. "Scheiße" - "Born This Way"
Off of the 2011 album, the song is German for "sh*it/dammit". Gaga wrote this after a night out in Berlin and said:
I meant it like 'shit, it's good.' But I also meant it the other way, because this song is really about wanting to be a strong female without all the bullshit that comes along with. Anything that gets in your way from being brave. It's not the only word I know, I just like that word. It's sexy.”
Great song for your workout playlist, too!
2. "You And I" - "Born This Way
Gaga performed this at the 2011 Grammys with Sugarland, and it was this song brought out her crossdressed alter ego. Though it is said to be about an ex, Gaga met her now fiance Taylor Kinney making this music video.
3. "Summer Boy" - "The Fame"
A song featuring the classic "summer lovin'" fling and one of Gaga's earlier songs off of her first album, it's a perfect song to put on your playlist with summer coming up.
4. "Judas" – “Born This Way”
“Born This Way” featured several songs with religious references to them; this song being one of them. The song is undeniably catchy, and it’s about the girlfriend of a good man who still wants a bad boy and, ultimately, betrays her man for him. The video is full of references and meanings that go along with the classic story of Judas' betrayal.
5. "Speechless" – “The Fame Monster”
Showcasing Gaga's amazing vocals, the balled was explained to be a plea to her father to get an operation that was very much needed for his heart, which he was refusing to undergo. She leaves us speechless with the beautiful tune.
6. "Mary Jane Holland" – “Artpop”
Off of her latest solo album, Gaga wrote this song following a trip to Holland in which she dyed her hair and went under the radar for the day. Named "Mary Jane Holland" for the off-duty day, Gaga says this track was inspired by this and represents who she wants to be while off the grid and being herself.
7. "Alejandro" - The “Fame Monster”
Gaga bids farewell to Alejandro, Fernando, and Roberto, making you want to find loves with Spanish names like this just to have let go in a tragic love song narrative.
8. "Lovegame" – “The Fame” (US Version)
Fall back in love with Gaga in the beginning with this song. Pulled from her first album, even from the beginning, she was full of instant appeal. Whether the game Gaga wants to play is Go-Fish or something a little more x-rated, you'll play whatever she wants to after listening to this.
9. "Dance In The Dark" – “The Fame Monster”
Featuring "baby" who loves to dance in spite of her boyfriend, the song makes you want to dance in the dark, or even the light, yourself. So go do it!
10. "Marry The Night" – “Born This Way”
If you're lying on the ground, this song will pick you up and get you back going. Though we cannot literally marry the night, we all do love it.
11. "Bloody Mary" – “Born This Way”
Another one of Gaga's songs circling around religious references, she explains the song as:
"Quite subtle, actually. It's a song about Mary being divine and human at the same time, with a subtext (maybe it's not even a subtext) about the role of a woman who is supposed to be a superstar and a real woman at the same time. Not life-alteringly deep perhaps but it works as a pop song."
