It's 2017 and headlines like this still exist. Why?
We are just about approaching the summer aka music festival season and what that means is that tons of girls are going to be decked out in nothing but bralettes, chokers, flower crowns and high waist denim shorts.
But what this really means is this; people are going to dress however they want to simply because they want to. Girls don't need excuses as to why they want to dress up the way they do and yet there are some people out where who think that they have the right to shame people based on the fabrics that someone puts (or doesn't put) on their body.
There are so many reasons why someone may wear the outfits that they do. Maybe it's hot outside so she wants to wear shorts. Maybe he's proud of his biceps and wants to wear that tank to show it off. Maybe her skin is glowing today and she wants to show it all off. Maybe she's cold today so she bundles up. Maybe, maybe, maybe. News flash: people don't need to give you their reasons as to why they dress the way they do.
It's 2017. Ladies, gentlemen, and everyone somewhere on the spectrum: dress however you want. Dress as slutty as you want or dress as modest as you want. No one has the right to police the fabrics that go on (or don't go on) your body.
And slut-shaming, please, let's leave it behind us. First of all, the clothes that a girl wears is not an accurate measurement of whether or not she is "slutty" or sexually promiscuous. Second of all, and most importantly, being a slut is not evil. I repeat: it's okay to be sexually promiscuous. As long as no one is being harmed, injured, or unsafe, you have no right to shame anyone for their sexual activities. And you definitely don't have the right to judge them or shame them based on their outfits.
