Kneeling During The National Anthem Is Absolutely Inappropriate

The NFL is not the place or time to protest like these players have decided to do.

Kneeling During The National Anthem Is Absolutely Inappropriate

America is known to be a country that in order to make a point or change something they have to make a huge scene so the government actually notices the issue at hand. Most recently, the victim of this is the NFL. Last year, Colin Kaepernick, former San Francisco 49ers' quarterback, was the first player in the NFL to kneel during the national anthem. His reasoning behind this was because of the racial transgressions and police brutality that was going on nationwide and he wanted to bring to light that racism is still a huge problem in today's society. He is now no longer apart of any NFL team because it caused such a controversy, and no team wanted him.

Since Trump was elected into office, more and more riots and events have happened that widely relate to racial transgressions. After more NFL players began to kneel during the national anthem, Trump started to tweet multiple tweets about these actions and how disrespectful it is to kneel while our countries flag is waving; he is also calling out owners, asking them to fire the players that are kneeling, since they are disobeying NFL guidelines. Much backlash has come from these tweets saying that Trump is rude and doesn't know what he's talking about.

I believe that Trump is right to talk about the disrespect this brings the country and the men that died to give us freedom. Even thought the First Amendment clearly states that we have the right to freedom of speech, in 1989, in the Supreme Court Texas vs. Johnson case, it was prohibited to desecrate (treating (a sacred place or thing) with violent disrespect) the American flag. Kneeling and not wanting to recognize the National Anthem is an example of desecrating the American Flag.

NFL players like Malcom Butler and Stephen Gilmore on the Patriots knelt because of the racial transgressions, but Daily News came out with this on Monday, "Around 200 NFL players on Sunday joined a silent protest against President Trump’s criticism of athletes by dropping to one knee or sitting during the national anthem." The fact that this is why most player knelt is inappropriate. Kneeling and disrespecting the flag like that is not a way to protest Trump. Hopefully, these players will soon realize that this is extremely inappropriate and will stop desecrating the American Flag.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
