You aren’t good enough. Why can’t you stop eating? Freshman 15… more like freshman 30. Do you honestly think you will get a job with that major? Why can’t you study more? Your beliefs are wrong. Look at them, be like them, the ones who always look flawless. YOU. ARENT. GOOD. ENOUGH.
But you are. You are good enough. We all have the voice, the one that is in our head and eats away at us until eventually we believe what the voice is saying. There are so many tragic and heart-wrenching events taking place in our nation today. The events that target groups that believe they aren’t good enough because so many people told them that. I’m not the only one saying it and I hope that I am not the last: you are good enough, you are worthy and most of all YOU get to decide your future. The voices don’t define you and they shouldn’t hold you down. It's time to kill the voice, whether it's in your head or is another person spouting uneducated remarks that are bringing you down. Overcome the adversity and thrive.
There are ways to silence the voice. It will still creep back into your head during moments of weakness, but you are the strongest one. You get to rise and conquer and achieve all the dreams that your fingers can possible grasp. You get to do that. Do this by surrounding yourself with an amazing group of people. As Meredith Grey says, “find your person.” I’ve always had my person but I didn’t find my group of people until senior year of high school. If you have a group of friends that continuously build you up, they will be there when someone tries to tear you down. They can be your rock when you cannot be your own. So trust me, go find your person and once you do, grab onto them and hold them tight.
Kill the voice by being the best you that you can be. Volunteer, make a difference, pick up a new hobby; honestly do anything that makes you feel amazing as a person. Personally, I love to do volunteer work because it makes me feel like I matter. I feel like I am making a difference in people’s lives when I volunteer and it makes me feel untouchable. Find the activity that makes you feel untouchable and makes you come alive. The best ways to overcome those voices are to be better than them, do not indulge yourself in their poor attitudes and toxic outlook on others. Don’t succumb to their level because it won’t improve your life it will put you on their level. Be the better person because you are.
Find your person and hold on tight. Find an activity that ignites the spark in you that can change the world. Kill the voice before it has the chance to bring you down. Oh, and don’t forget, you are and always will be good enough.
