The Bahamas are an idea get away spot for people all over the world, but for the people who live there go through real life events, news, crime, hardships, and entertainment. The Nassau Guardian is a newspaper in the Bahamas dedicated to the people who live there and for the people who have moved away and want to keep up with current events there is a website at http://www.thenassauguardian.com/. The guardian covers business, sports, lifestyle, religion, news, and todays opinions. The paper is social network active using Facebook, Pinterest, and a RSS news feed. The big story on their site today is hurricane Mathew which is due to hit and impact the whole area including the United States Florida coast. In depth coverage is full time on site as they cover the evacuation plans and the storms progress. Shifting away from the danger of the storm the site also covers local and world sports as volleyball for women is a top sport of the tropical area as they are trying to qualify for COZOVA, and in world sports they cover the Miami Heat as they are in close proximity. In business they of course tell about their very successful hotel businesses on the islands, as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Resort Operations of Atlantis Paradise Island, Stuart Bowe was named the 2016 Caribbean Hotelier of the Year by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) in October. Nassau Community College has its own radio station covering local sports, news, college information, and ever changing line up of music for all listeners. WHPC radio has contest and promotions from around the area to keep people listening. The majority of their music block is retro mix radio. To find a list of what’s happening and what’s going to be on next can go to the web site at http://www.ncc.edu/studentlife/whpcradiostation/default.shtml for a preview of what’s coming up on air. “WHPC offers over 50 different types of programming, including entertainment, information, event announcements and public service programming to Nassau County, as well as parts of Queens and Suffolk County on 90.3FM, and world-wide by clicking the "Listen Live" link above, or on your smartphones through the "Tune-In" app.” (http://www.ncc.edu/studentlife/whpcradiostation/default.shtml). Radio may not be the most popular way to reach an audience in the United States however, in small places with limited technology especially on islands in the ocean radio is a great way to reach many people that are otherwise disconnected.

Seasonal issues are printed for the whole area and covers issues that appeal to women of that Caribbean areas. YouTube and flicker are the social media outlets most popular on the site as they can reach out and discuss women’s issues on a broader form or advertise latest women’s fashions. This publication is similar to a dialed down for of Vogue, a women magazine for style, news, diets, and trends in the United States. A small magazine as it is only seasonal for its issues however, the online presence is year round. A section online shows all past issues, women of the Caribbean competition section, and a UN Woman TV area. The UN Woman TV area is a section where clips of women in the Caribbean are shown from life style to fashion. “Hi, Welcome to Nu Woman TV! This is our very first episode and we are covering Trinidad Carnival from start to finish! We will take you behind the scenes from landing on ‘Trini soil’ to getting costumes, and preparing for the big day, Monday and Tuesday Mas! Tedi and I will be your guide on this trip. So how did this all begin?” (https://nuwomanmagazine.com/nu-woman-tv-2/).

NB12 is a TV station in the area that has most of its content online using YouTube. This station uses local news to reach the younger audiences through YouTube. A very clever marketing technique to appeal to the next generation of viewers. The actual TV channel 12 shows a variety of shows including news and original programing, “The Community Channel airs programs on any topic that is of interest to the Bahamian public. Local, in-house original and international programming covering the general areas of religion, sports, health, education, culture and government make up the mainstay of Cable 12’s daily program offerings. Additionally, the Community Channel presents a news program, NB12, at 7:30pm, 9:30pm and 11:30pm, Monday – Friday.” (https://www.cablebahamas.com/cable-12/). Facebook is a focus as well as they post upcoming shows and other news stories to the page, making them a very interactive station.

The Bahamas offer several ways to view the local and worldwide media content from anywhere. It is surprising a small island nation has such wide variety of radio, TV, newspaper, and Magazine selections. These all have a wide use of social media sites to pander to the audiences of tomorrow.
